The New Jersey Legislature recently passed the Strengthening Gifted Education Act; the first legislative or regulatory action to directly affect New Jersey gifted education in more than a decade. This session will review the changes for gifted education, what remains, what the next legislative session may hold for gifted education programs in New Jersey and the resulting impact for educators, students and their parents. In addition to the new law, discussion will include remaining federal and state laws governing gifted and talented education, the constitutional underpinning, funding sources, school district requirements, ESSA and state monitoring and how the case law in the administrative and judicial arenas has treated gifted and talented education.
